Are you in Ottawa, Montreal or Toronto? Then come see me at one of two special events!
Sienna Tristen and I have a variety of things in common. We both write books. Fantasy books, even! We like to talk (all the time) about craft, storytelling, our mortal coils, being reptile parents, Outer Wilds, and more. And we like to put on a show, so we’ve organized two separate “fireside chat” events this month, each on a different topic and featuring one of our cool friends.
On March 11th, at 5 pm, we’ll be at Librairie Saga in Montreal for “Worldbuilding Language in SFF” alongside local author Su J. Sokol! From inventing new language and terminology, to deciding character voice and tone, there are a lot of nuanced considerations to the language of your world, and we’ll be unpacking it.
Then on March 13th, at 6:30 pm, we’ll be at Perfect Books in downtown Ottawa for “Threshold Moments in Storytelling” with Kate Heartfield. These are the moments of greatest tension in your book, where you challenge your character to change or shift your plot into a new direction. How do we tackle those? Join us to find out!
Finally, on March 16th at 6 pm, Toronto’s Queen Books is hosting us for “Injecting Darkness in SFF” with guest author Suzan Palumbo. She excels at dark fantasy and horror, but all three of us add darker elements to our work in strategic ways – we’ll pick each other’s brains on the how and why, and where to find the balance.
I’m super excited for these events because a) I get to hang out with my friends and b) this’ll be my first time ever holding a bookstore event since Catalyst came out. Speaking of which, all three spots will have copies of our books on sale, or you can just come by to hang out!
Please share widely if possible, and hope to see you there!
